Global Deforestation Falls Significantly as Brazil and Indonesia Lead the Way
In a major win for the planet, global deforestation rates fell significantly in 2025, according to new satellite data and conservation reports. Brazil led the charge, with Amazon deforestation reaching its lowest levels in nearly a decade, thanks to strengthened enforcement of environmental laws and expanded Indigenous land protections.
Indonesia also continued its impressive downward trend in forest loss, building on policies that restrict palm oil expansion into primary forests. Conservation organizations celebrated the progress while emphasizing that sustained effort is needed. "These numbers show that when governments commit to protecting forests, it works," said a spokesperson for the World Wildlife Fund. "But we must keep the pressure on to ensure these gains are permanent."
