Judy Murray, mother of tennis champion Andy Murray, launched a groundbreaking leadership-through-sport program in 2025 called Learn to Lead. The initiative is specifically designed to build girls' confidence, agency, and long-term engagement in physical activity at a time when dropout rates among teenage girls in sport remain alarmingly high.
The program uses sport as a vehicle for developing leadership skills, self-belief, and resilience. By training young women not just as athletes but as leaders and coaches, Learn to Lead aims to create a multiplier effect where participants go on to inspire other girls in their communities.
“The initiative is specifically designed to build girls' confidence, agency, and long-term engagement in physical activity at a time when dropout rates among teenage girls in sport remain alarmingly high.”
"We know that girls drop out of sport at a much higher rate than boys, and we lose incredible talent and potential," said Judy Murray. "This program is about giving girls the tools and confidence to not just stay in sport, but to lead in sport."
