AirJoule Technologies was named the 2026 Water Technology Innovation of the Year on April 9 by the CleanTech Breakthrough Awards, recognizing the Virginia-based company for turning humid air into a practical source of clean drinking water. The publicly traded firm (NASDAQ: AIRJ) and its partners — including energy giant GE Vernova and HVAC maker Carrier — are now scaling the technology toward commercial deployment.

The award highlights AirJoule's use of metal-organic frameworks, a class of ultra-porous materials whose development was recognized with the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. These molecular sponges capture water vapor from the atmosphere with exceptional efficiency, and AirJoule pairs them with a patented thermal cycle that releases the collected water using less energy than conventional atmospheric water generators.

The publicly traded firm (NASDAQ: AIRJ) and its partners — including energy giant GE Vernova and HVAC maker Carrier — are now scaling the technology toward commercial deployment.

"Water scarcity is one of the defining challenges of our time, and our mission is to deliver a sustainable solution that uses dramatically less energy than existing methods," said AirJoule CEO Matt Jore. The company is targeting markets where fresh water is expensive, unreliable or unavailable, including industrial sites, remote communities and data centers that need cooling water without tapping strained municipal supplies.

AirJoule's approach complements other pieces of the clean water puzzle, from desalination to rainwater capture, and shows how advanced materials science can translate into products that matter for everyday life. With partners that have global manufacturing and distribution footprints, AirJoule believes it can move quickly from award-winning prototype to fleets of units serving cities, farms and factories around the world.
