The Eurasian lynx is making a comeback in Scotland after being absent for 500 years. The carefully managed reintroduction program has seen the cats establish territories and successfully breed in the wild.
"This is exactly what we hoped for," said the project ecologist. "The lynx are helping to control deer populations, which in turn is allowing forests to regenerate."
