Switzerland's Simon Ehammer delivered one of the most remarkable performances in the history of combined events at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, smashing the world record in the men's heptathlon with a total of 6,670 points across seven disciplines over two days of competition from March 20 to 22.
Ehammer's performance was extraordinary from start to finish. In the 60m hurdles, he clocked 7.52 seconds — not only a personal best but a new world heptathlon best, demonstrating his exceptional speed and technique over barriers. His versatility across throwing, jumping, and running events set him apart from the competition by a commanding margin.

The World Indoor Championships in Toruń set a new benchmark for the competition series, with a performance score of 49,516 surpassing the previous best of 49,348 achieved in Belgrade in 2022. Across three days, athletes produced 12 world-leading marks, seven area records, 46 national records, and an impressive 174 personal bests.
Canada's Christopher Morales Williams added to the record-breaking atmosphere with a championship record of 44.76 seconds in the men's 400m, while the Bahamas' Devynne Charlton matched her own world record to become the first three-time winner of the women's world indoor 60m hurdles title.
Great Britain enjoyed a golden session highlighted by Keely Hodgkinson's championship record performance and victories from Georgia Hunter Bell in the 1500m and Molly Caudery in the pole vault. Sweden's Mondo Duplantis continued his remarkable dominance in the pole vault, adding another global title to his collection.
The championships featured 674 athletes from 118 federations competing across 26 events, making it one of the most competitive and exciting editions in the event's history. The depth of talent on display underscored the growing global reach and competitiveness of indoor athletics.
