AirJoule Wins "Water Tech Innovation of the Year" for Producing Clean Water from Air

AirJoule Technologies has been named "Water Tech Innovation of the Year" at the 2026 CleanTech Breakthrough Awards for its technology that produces pure distilled water directly from air. Announced on April 9, the award recognizes the company's innovative approach to addressing global water scarcity.

The AirJoule system can extract water from air at humidity levels as low as 20%, making it viable in arid environments where traditional water sources are scarce. What sets it apart from other atmospheric water generation technologies is its ability to use waste heat — particularly from data centers — as its primary energy source, effectively turning a cooling problem into a water solution.

By capturing waste heat from data centers, AirJoule simultaneously reduces the thermal load on these facilities while generating clean water. This dual benefit has attracted partnerships with major technology companies including GE Vernova and Carrier, who see the system as complementary to their existing infrastructure.

The technology is already deployed across sites in Texas, Arizona, California, and Dubai, spanning defense, industrial, and residential applications. In data center applications, the system can produce thousands of gallons of distilled water per day while reducing cooling costs.

Water scarcity affects billions of people worldwide, and the crisis is expected to intensify with climate change.
