The UK's largest woodland conservation charity is enlisting drones to restore temperate rainforests in hard-to-reach places. The technology could revolutionize reforestation efforts worldwide.
Drones can plant thousands of seed pods per day in steep, rocky terrain that would be impossible for human planters to access. Each pod contains seeds, nutrients, and materials to help the seedlings establish themselves.
“The technology could revolutionize reforestation efforts worldwide.”
"This technology allows us to restore forests at a scale and speed that was previously unimaginable," said a project leader. "We can now reach places that have been deforested for decades."
