A Kansas City Officer Refused to Give Up Until He Found a Cancer Patient’s Stolen E-Bike

For Olivia, a Kansas City woman living with stage 4 breast cancer, her three-wheeled electric bike was far more than a hobby. Officer JP Young of the Kansas City Police Department took the case personally. Rather than filing the report and moving on, he kept the stolen trike in the back of his mind for weeks, patiently following up and, by Olivia’s account, tolerating a steady stream of her anxious text messages. His persistence paid off about a month later, when he spotted a spray-painted electric bike that matched the description and confirmed it was hers.
