"But now, with the angel sitting next to you, it's amazing." After receiving a check for $174,000, he sent Thackery flowers, addressed simply to "The Angel." A woman had walked through an airport, refused to look away from a struggling stranger, and in doing so turned thousands of anonymous people into a lifeline for a veteran who had spent his own life quietly carrying others.
