The US is on course for one of its least violent years since modern records began, Positive News reported. According to the Real-Time Crime Index, the US murder rate is down by almost 20% in 2025, while violent crime has fallen by nearly 11%.
It's not a blip. FBI figures from August show that the US murder rate saw its sharpest fall to date in 2024, dropping by 14.9% — eclipsing even 2023's substantial 10% decline.

A similar trend is underway globally. Brazil's murder rate plummeted by 20.3% over the last decade. In London, the murder rate is the lowest it's been since records began in 2003, and recorded knife crime has seen a year-on-year decline of 7%. The data points to a sustained, multi-year improvement in public safety across multiple countries.
